Quality pipe for high-pressure water fogging
High-pressure fogging systems are an innovative technology for fire fighting, air humidification or dust suppression. In comparison to conventional sprinklers, they produce a fine water mist under high pressure. Such systems are already used in a wide variety of industries.
The use of these fogging systems has proven to be extremely beneficial and offers numerous advantages, including damage minimisation through less water use. Our High-quality stainless steel pipes are a practical solution for the installation, characterised by particularly high quality standards, production in our own German pipe factory and the used material.
Areas of application for high-pressure fogging systems
The most important area of application of high-pressure water fogging systems (HDWN) is fire protection. The discharge of water under pressure (up to 100 bar) leads to a very fine atomisation and increases the surface of the drops to up to 40 - 80 μm in some cases. This means that, in contrast to sprinkler systems, even concealed areas can be easily reached. The fine water mist surrounds the flames, creating water vapour that displaces oxygen and smothers the fire. At the same time, highly toxic soot particles and smoke gases are washed out and consequential fire damage to humans and animals is significantly reduced.
Depending on the design of the system, HDWN require 5-10 times less extinguishing water than conventional sprinkler and deluge systems. This means that the systems can be dimensioned considerably smaller with the same performance - a clear advantage for structural engineering when retrofitting in old buildings, but also for test stands, laboratories and many other areas up to trains and maritime applications where little space is available.
Areas of application for water mist extinguishing systems include:
- Hotels, hospitals
- archives
- Warehouses
- Painting lines
- Gas turbines and generators in power stations
- Test benches for engines (automotive industry)
- Wind turbines
- Production machines
- Engine rooms and passenger machines on ships
- Cable ducts
- Tunnel systems
- Oil and gas applications
- Automatic parking systems
- Marine and offshore
Suitable pipes for high-pressure water fogging
With the SANHA® pipes specially manufactured for high-pressure applications, an excellent solution is available. The pipes, manufactured in-house in Germany, are made of stainless steel 1.4404 (AISI 316L) and, due to their high corrosion resistance suitable for both open and closed water-bearing systems and for technical gases as well as for applications in the high-temperature range.
A significant advantage is the excellent resistance to high pressure and aggressive media. High pressure fogging requires precise control of the pressure to ensure fine atomisation of the liquid. The SANHA® piping system meets these requirements without compromising on safety. This enables reliable operation and minimises downtime. Even the use of potentially aggressive liquids or solutions is no problem. The premium material as well as the careful manufacturing in our own German pipe factory ensure a long service life even under these conditions. This not only reduces maintenance costs, but also increases operational reliability.
Air humidification and dust suppression
High-pressure fogging systems are also used to humidify air. If humidity needs to be controlled - for example in production facilities or warehouses - these systems can help to maintain an optimal humidity level. This is important to ensure the quality of products, prevent electrostatic discharges and ensure the well-being of employees.
Another important benefit of high-pressure fogging systems is dust suppression. In industries such as mining, construction or agriculture, where dust can pose a serious health risk, these systems can be used to trap dust particles and minimise their dispersion. Such systems are also used for hall or gate fogging. This contributes to worker safety and helps reduce environmental pollution.
Excursus: Piping systems up to 40 bar
Depending on the situation, the operating pressure can be considerably lower than for fire protection systems. Up to 40 bar, the NiroSan® piping system or, depending on the requirements, the NiroSan® Industry system (up to 160 °C) are available for this purpose. Like the high-pressure pipes mentioned above, both are made of high-quality stainless steel 1.4404 / AISI 316L. Especially in complex plants where water fogging systems with lower operating pressures are used, they are characterised by particularly fast and trouble-free installation. The wide range of pipes and fittings from 15 to 168 mm includes, among other things, all common bends, T-pieces, sockets or flanges as well as special designs on request, thus always enabling suitable and flexible pipe routing.
